Walking by the Lake


Cool evening air floats across the lake
Bringing the stench of dead fish, old
Sandwiches and charred wood.
The path flows to the edge and
Reveals calm waters in the mist.
Gravity disappears.
Dark space surrounds me.

This is an Ekphrastic poem, inspired by a photo similar to the one posted here. I wrote this as an exercise at an Idaho Writers League meeting. Adam Walsh was our presenter and he challenged us to look at the photo and write the poem in one minute.
